Attached see a picture of the backing plate of my Courier's rear brakes.

1. Does the backing plate look like that on an early Sprite?

2. The rear brake shoes are 8" x 1-1/2" and the drum is marked MOWOG and ATA 7154. Can anyone source this drum--does it match that on an early Sprite?

Michael, the Spridgets had 7" brakes. But, in a '67 SCCA PCS, it lists the 8" brake drums, ATA 7154, as an alternate for the fronts.
Unfortunately, it doesn't say what the source is.

Thanks Jeff.

If the drum has a 4 on 4" b.c. then........

I THINK the 8" drums are from a sedan or pickup like a Morris or somesuch.

Remember vaguely the Daniel Stapleton Spridget book printed in UK that it was mentioned with a picture and was the hot tip for 1991 or somewhere in there.

Michael, I've got a complete Morris rear axle, and I can run up to the storage facility tomorrow and see what's on there for rear brakes, if you want me to.

Jeff--

No need to make a special trip but yes please check next time you are there and let me know.

Michael,

From the picture it appears to be a Wolseley 8" rear setup. The Wolseley used 8" drums and a single wheel cylinder. Front brake shoes from a late Morris Minor will fit also. The switch to 8" Wolseley rear brakes was a 'common' upgrade on the other side of the pond. Hope this helps.
