Rear axle nut wrench for rent anyone?

I'm about to take apart my rear axle and was wondering if anyone had an axle nut socket/wrench they could lend for a bit rather than me purchasing one. I would send it back unharmed! :thankyousign:

I made one for my car and I don't believe you could hurt it! I live is Salt Lake City and you are welcome to use it if you cannot find one closer. It is not designed to be used with a torque wrench because my torque wrench will not work with left handed threads anyway. I don't think it would cost more than a few bucks to send it to you. In response to the 2 3/16 socket you need, If all else fails go to sears! They sell them! I think the socket is about $23 dollors. Good luck, Michael.

Hello Randy, How are you? I was at sears the other day and noted they sell sockets up to 2/3/8 if i remember correctly, I was just passing by quickly and took a note of the large selection including the 2 3/16 socket. I am not sure if it was the 8 point or not but it would be worth checking into for whoever needs one, And they may be able to order the 8 point for there customers. I will take a look next time i go back to sears and get back to you and the rest of the forum. Michael.
 
Unfortunately the Sears and other 12 point sockets will not work well. Sears and Snap-on do not carry an 8 point socket.

If the nut is torqued correctly you will have great difficulty getting the nut off with a Sears or other 12 point socket. You need the correct 8 sided tool. The picture below shows the fit with a Sears 12 Point 2 3/16” socket.

Thanks for the info Duane.

I have been wondering about those sockets and how I'm going to get mine tightened up properly. Maybe the best plan is to water-jet cut a 1/2" steel plate with an 8-sided hole plus a 1/2" square drive for the torque wrench

Yes, I just used a mill..

I used 1/4" plate and made a 4-sided hole. I then use a couple of small C-clamps to hold it against the axle flange while tightening/loosening. Otherwise, with such a thin, wide nut, it's too easy to slip off and damage the nut.

It doesn't look like that one will fit. It's designed for 1 15/16, not 2-3/16 or 2-13/64 as noted above.

The correct size is 2-13/64" or 56mm. The nut is just a fraction smaller. The socket I purchased from AH Spares has 56MM stamped on it and it works perfectly. I measured it, and it is exacly 56mm.

How thick is the nut on the axle? I'm going to design a CAD file to mill one of these on a friend's cnc milling machine.
