TR2/3/3A Rear axle hub dis-assembly

In researching seperating the hubs on a TR3 rear axle, I read of potentially warped hubs from badly set-up press work, and astonishing amounts of pressure needed to get them apart. I read an older post where a tool was made that the threads on the flange around the axle end, then used a bolt to press the axle through. After hanging the axle/spindle/hub assemblies vertically and soaking them with penetrating oil for a couple weeks, I set one up in my low-budget 12 ton press, cranked on the pressure, and got nowhere. The older post included part numbers from McMaster-Carr, so I ordered the stuff: Monster nut to thread onto the flange, smaller nut to weld onto the big one, and a 5" bolt to do the pressing. I drilled holes in a 4 foot piece of angle iron, used lug nuts to hold it over 2 of the wheel studs, clamped the axle to a bench, and with a friend and 2 three foot long wrenches pulling together the axles came out without a sound.
A big Thank You to the folks here! Never would have thought to try this method.
One note: An impact socket to fit the bolt (2-1/8") is Really Expensive. I welded a smaller nut (1-1/2") to the bolt head, and used a socket I already had. That gave us 2 places to wrench from.

Nice...definitely a better way than using the press alone. I've collected all the parts to build a puller, but haven't gotten around to it yet...
