Hi everyone
I have a question which may seem a bit dumb but. . .
When I reassembled my rear axle the gasket between the 'pumpkin' and the axle casing didn't fit properly so I had to make a new one. The only gasket paper I had was a few thou thicker than the original thin one. I may be worrying unnecessarily but do you think the thickness of the gasket is critical.

I had the same issue with a replacement paper gasket when I installed 3:54 gears about 5 years ago. When I bought the gears on ebay, the seller included the gasket. When I tried to install it, I found it was too small, couldn't get it to stretch around the studs in the pumpkin. I wound up making a new one from bulk gasket material. Has worked fine since. The thicker material will not be a problem.
 
Several years ago when I was overhauling my axle, Jim LeBlanc, a long-time 100M owner, suggested putting an o-ring on each stud around the banjo as an additional protection against leakage.
