Rear Axel Socket Size?

Hello Folks,

I wanted to check on my rear axel's level, and perhaps drain and refill it. The trouble is that none of my sockets will work! The 1/2" is too big and the 3/8" is too small.

Does anyone know what the correct socket size is, or is there a special tool? I've checked the Moss and V.B. catalogues but have found no info on the subject. My Haynes manual doesn't mention socket size either.

Thanks,
Obtong

i saw the answer to that on here somewhere but cant find it now....i believe you will find its 7/16 , i got a piece of bar stock from work. and used a large crescent wrench. you only needa short piece. you also could use an old 1/2in extension and grind down 2 of the sides carefully till it fits

Thanks for the info, Mark. I'm going to see if I have an old 1/2" socket I can file down. That's a good idea.

I did look through the forum for the axel info but I guess I was using the wrong search words.
