TR6 Really BIG Brake Kit for TR6

If your car had handlebars I think you would go right over. Might be a bit of overkill unless you have lots of HP.
 
You're right. Now what do you do with the small rear brakes and the balance of braking between the two?

Maybe nothing. All that venting & crossdrilling doesn't mean they stop any better. Looks like about the stock rotor diameter to me; and he doesn't give the area of the caliper pistons.

But if you do need a bias fix, there are larger slave cylinders available that will fit the stock backing plates. Or you could install a proportioning valve.
 
But Randall, it does look good, doesn't it?

By the way, my question was purely hypothetical. I'm very happy with my new stock brakes and updated hub kit.

Always a matter of taste ... personally I don't care for it. But then, I don't own a TR6 either, so what do I know ?

Took the SO to look at new BMW Minis yesterday. She was all excited, ready to write a check on the spot ... they look much too gawdy to me. I'd rather hang a blower on a TR3.
 
Test drove one a couple of weeks ago,a Clubman. That a Accord Coupe,an Altima Coupe and a Acura TSX are the options. My wife loves the Mini but realizes that with a 16 and a 14 y.o. a little small still. Maybe next time.

The mini is a kick to drive especially the Cooper Works ones.

If it is non production, what happens when you need rotors one day. $2k ?
 
I don't like the design of those rotors at all. A simple modern vented rotor would be better (without holes or slots imho)
Those are the lightweight dynalite calipers from the looks of it. If you look at some of the online parts suppliers, you can see what those calipers cost (not a lot) and you know what rotors cost, so the only special parts are the brackets and the rotor hub. I think this "kit" is a HUGE rip off. This site will probably give you much more "bang for the buck" and probably cost less.(they used to advertise the price-i couldn't find it lately)

Be advised that neither of these have calipers with dust/dirt boots so the calipers will wear out faster than ones with dust boots. (All street cars come with calipers with dust boots) Aluminum calipers wear out faster than steel ones.

FYI-The wilwood DYNAPRO caliper does have dust/dirt boots.

I emailed the seller and asked him about the set up. The Calipers, Rotor and hoses are all stock Wilwood parts that anyone can buy off the shelve. The rotor and caliper brackets are the only thing custom. They made up two sets then decided it was too costly and wouldn't be profitable to produce.
 
I have designed and built some big brake kits for the TR8 and the BMW 2002 I have. That TR6 kit seems very expensive. I'd be willing to bet you could design and make a prototype for that price. The cost in something like this is the initial set up price for the machine work. You have to pay the machinist for his time, but once you have settled on a design for the brackets, he could fire off as many as you want for somewhere in the neighborhood of $150 a set. The rest of the Willwood stuff should cost around $600 to $800. Willwood hats and rotors are relatively cheap compared to stock TR8 pieces.
 
there is a large range of brake parts available from wilwood. What i have found is that most kits (for any car)tend to use the lowest end parts possible(this does not meen they are not good, just the lower end of the performance parts). This goes for both rotors and calipers. You don't need overkill, but you want consistent, worry free, fade free brakes for your car and usage. Different brakes may also give the possibility to save some weight also since aluminum 4-pot calipers weigh less than triumph calipers, but you will probably put that weight back in by putting in the largest vented rotors practical. When you look at vented rotors, there are different details to consider:
straight vane, curved directional vane, drilled, slotted, weight, diameter, and width.
holes and slots reduce the contact surface area but have some benefits when pushing the limits of your brakes. Many race cars have carbon brakes-no holes or slots.
new compound pads don't gas off like the old ones. I like the wilwood GT rotors, some slots, curved directional vanes.
 
Those are bragging brakes, not stopping brakes. Waste of time unless you live to brag, not drive.
