Re: "Frogeye" Radiator ID Question:

Good Morn`n Boys & Girls,

I had recently purchased a Good, Used Radiator to install in my `59 Frogeye (I like the way Frogeye sounds over "Bugeye").

Anyways; On the top of the Rad. It has an "ID Plate" that I have never seen before. It measures approx. 1/2"w x 2"lg (Brass of Course). The markings read: (ARA 92 41 61).

What do the markings mean? Is this in fact an Orig. "Frogeye" Radiator?

Thanx for Your replies,

Russ

Re: "Frogeye" Radiator ID Question:

The original radiator on my 58 (no shroud) had that brass plate and the letters were ARA only one number legible and it was a 1. So I would assume yours is an original.

Re: "Frogeye" Radiator ID Question:

Hi There jm,

"Thanx" for your input. Where in SC do you live?

Regards, Russ

Re: "Frogeye" Radiator ID Question:

Ara 92 28 63 on the one I have which I am certain is an original...as to what the numbers mean...I hope someone chimes in with more knowledge!!

Re: "Frogeye" Radiator ID Question:

I always thought the last number was the year of manufacture.
But I do know the tops of the radiators changed from the Bugeyes to the MKII Sprites. 4 ribs to 3 at some point but I am not certain when that change took place.

Re: "Frogeye" Radiator ID Question:

The radiator that is original to AN5L 9382 produced January 1, 1959 has a brass plate that reads as follows:

Manufactured By
Morris Motors, Ltd.
Radiator Branch
Osberton Works, Oxford

ARA 093 10 00008

Odd that it reads 093 rather than 092. I suspect that the 10 is October and that the 0008 is 1958.

Re: "Frogeye" Radiator ID Question:

Hi There Spritenut,

Thats what I would think but that theory was killed by "bugimike" being certain he has an "Orig" Rad to his `59 BE since his Rad reads ARA 92 28 63.

I guess its back to the archives & see what some books have to say.

Thanx, Russ

PS: Mine is boiled out, checked out, painted etc & Is "Good to Go"!
