The door on my BN1 seems to be rattling, mostly from the latch area (rear end of the door). Since we have some 'vintage' roads here in Santa Barbara, it rattles a lot.

The panels are well aligned and the hinges appear to be in good condition. I can't find any adjustment in the striker to take care of it. My car does NOT have any insulation/seal on the bottom seam of the door but it may have at one point- I've never found a definitive yes/no on this for BN1s.

Can you offer any guidance on how I might reduce this rattling? Thanks in advance.
 
As far as I know, the bottom sealing rubber was used on the BN1 & BN2.

The retracting latch pin should be a snug fit into the striker hole. If the latch pin or the striker hole is worn the door will never latch tightly.

The outer striker notch is just for safety. The real latching is done by the pin going into the striker hole by about 1/4" or more.

The striker can be adjusted in & out by loosening the mounting screws & sliding it, but there is only one position where the door & rear panel will align.

The striker itself can be removed from the mount by removing the nut on the back side in the wheel well. Obviously, the bonded rubber that surrounds the striker shank must be in good condition. Replacement parts are available from Moss.

The striker has a tapered (trapezoid) cross section & can be adjusted fore & aft with shims to get a better fit with the door latch.
