Rattles behind dash

I have an annoying rattle behind the dash on my BJ8. Can't seem to find it from under the dash. I was wondering what sort of access I would get to the area just below the windscreen if I removed the pad on top of the dash. Any help would be appreciated.

Before you take anything off, check the bonnet hinges. They are a close fit inside sleeves, and can be hard to pin down as a source for noise. Try some lube first - with the bonnet up, treat the slots in the firewall. When that changed the noise, but didn't eliminate it, I added part of a Velcro strip to the bracket to keep it from moving.

I do not think that you will see much if you take the pad off, the scuttle does have largish triangular holes but I think that they are masked by the front shroud.

On earlier 100-6 & 3000s the dash is smooth under the pad, except for openings for the demisters. Moss catalog "Outer Body Panels 100-6, 3000" page implies ditto for BJ8s.

I had a rattle that sounded like a hinge or under dash or on firewall which I chased for years. Turns out the right-side fender flange had no bolt securing it to the fender. Had to remove the air hose to the blower to get to it. IIRC, at the time was able create the rattle by hitting the fender shell in the wheel well with a rubber mallet.
