Ratco cable linkage review

Awoke feeling a bit better and thought maybe a brisk drive
might help me get rid of the flu bug. First real drive with
the new Ratco cable throttle linkage installed.

The linkage that came with the car was sloppy and sluggish.
There was always a slight hesitation before the carbs
responded to me pushing down on the gas pedal. Also, the
control arm was badly adjusted and topped out at around
4000 rpms with gas pedal on floor.

The Ratco cable linkage was an easy install. (once the
stupid kid on the block figured out the DPO's control arm
was installed improperly!) Paul's photos were a big help.
I'll author a "How To" for twin carbs in a bit.

The Ratco linkage response is instant and precise. The
movement is smooth with no hesitation, slop or
sluggishness. The gas pedal sits a bit higher off the
floor than it did before.

I admit to not having the stones to drive the car to
redline. I got it to about 4600 rpms in 3rd and was going
well over 70 mph. I was scared I'd blow up the engine. I
had some pedal left for sure and the tach was still easily
climbing. I have no doubts redline was easily within reach.

Left some rubber in the road a coupla times shifting into
2nd gear. The instant response will take some getting used
to !!

Summary: Worth every $, good value for the buck. For my
car, a very positive, inexpensive upgrade. Well pleased.

Almost two years to the day since Wendy purchased DPO
Pedro's bucket of broken down TR6.

After a very trying/expensive two year owner restoration-
"Wicked" best describes how my car now drives. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Next suggested project for 2008. Get rid of purple wire on steering column. Looks out of place in that fine looking TR6.

See what happens when you get a car looking and running good? The nitpickers chime in /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

White linkage mounts. Dale, you run out of colors. Seems kind of tame for you.

Having just put a new ground board in for the horn, I think that is the original color. However, rotating the wire down to the bottom and hiding it in the wire cover would make it look properly finished.

I was just testing to see if he was paying attention. I think that our intrepid hero is still down with the flu.

Dale, with a stock or even externally modified 6 motor(exhaust, intake, ignition, pulleys, elect fan motor) there is really no need to go to redline.

Max horsepower and Max torque are lower in the rev band. A lot lower, if I remember right 4 is as high as you need to go with this engine.

Bottom end is not the sturdiest design with a spaghetti like crank, only four mains and two bolts each. The crank will set up a "whiplash" affect and works on the thrust bearings quickly and when run at redline you eat up cranks quickly(they do break).

So enjoy the torque rather than the bouncing off the redline on your engine.
