disclosure: all or any respondents admissions, will be used solely by me to calculate my general expectations on how our currant economy will affect personal celebratory expenditures in this economic climate-- versus previous holiday's frivolous expenditures. (gasp) HAVE OUR MODERATORS HIT THE BUTTON YET??? .... My attempt at the legal "Mumbo Jumbo" If you traditionally celebrate with fireworks, will you continue the tradition this year?

Randi, this is a good idea..... In our part of the state of Frozentodeath, ooops, sorry, Wisconsin, private fireworks are illegal (just a few counties, of which ours is one) so I don't dabble with them, much as I would like to.

Same here in Los Angeles. 'Cept for the frozen part.

It's illegal everywhere around here except for the house across the street, apparently.

They ban them here when it's warranted (e.g., too dry), otherwise it's allowed. Speaking of fireworks, last week I called the police to file a report of attempted arson. Someone, during the night, came up to our porch and set off a very large Roman Candle right next to our house and scorched the porch and the wall of our house! Who ever it was is VERY lucky I did not catch them in the act.

The wonderful part is you guys never were allowed to buy them so not buying them now is not a negative factor!! HOPE SPRINGS ENERNAL.......still  thank you for sharing your data! Do I sound like that 50's game show with Art Likletter that matched people for dates with a room full of bookcase sized computers??? Physicatriac help is quite possiblly my next & most logical step :iagree:

It's traditional to do the celebratory gun fire thing after the beer toast on New Year.

Other than that we have a rule...
All shrapnel has to land on yer own dang property.

Story time...
My Dad & I are behind the barn (I'm about 10)
Huge explosion off toward the old stone quarry.
He turns to me.

"Hope the kids put a long fuse on that one"

We are invited to a New Year's eve party that traditionally sets off fireworks - I expect they will have them again this year. They're illegal but what the hey, you're only young once B-)

Live in Maryland -banned - banned - banned....

Banned here on the coast in Santa Cruz, Ca, but every year, go to the beach and voila, what a show!

Re: Random Poll[ we must admit we are pretty eclec

They used to be legal here in CA, but not anymore. Remember we live in a very dry area, prone to wildfires. Of course professional fireworks shows are legal and plentiful on July 4th and New Year's Eve. Here are a few tidbits clipped from the web, detailing why they were deemed illegal here....

"I wanted to alert the public that fireworks, even ā€˜(safe and) sane’ fireworks, are illegal,ā€ said county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich"

"Last year (2007), 43 fires were caused by fireworks throughout Los Angeles County, costing taxpayers more than $600,000"

"The penalties for possession or use of fireworks is a $1,000 fine or one year in county jail. Certain fireworks, such as M-80s and M-100s, are considered explosives; possession of such a product is considered a felony. Possessing M-80s or M-100s may result in up to 16 months in state prison.

"Also, parents are liable for any damage or injuries caused by their children using fireworks, according to Antonovich."

"If any resident participates in a block party where illegal fireworks are used, the entire block will not be held responsible"

Re: Random Poll[ we must admit we are pretty eclec

illegal, but allowed here. "It's a cultural thing". I've seen copwagons cruise the street as the fireworks go off, and not even stop....

Re: Random Poll[ we must admit we are pretty eclec

Illegal here in the tri state area.

Re: Random Poll[ we must admit we are pretty eclec

Kind of Illegal here too! Except that during the 4th of July we can buy what we call lamers {Not at all like what you can purchase in Wyoming} Bottle Rockets, Sky Shells, Roman Candles, M80`s, Silver Salutes, Firecrackers of all sorts {the REAL STUFF}, ALL ILLEGAL here! We can only have the fizzers. If they shoot sparks more n 4 ft or make a boom there Illegal here. And NO no one does fireworks to celebrate Christmas or New Years here that I have ever encountered. However in the past I have heard an occasional gunfire on the turning of the New Year.
