Rally Vent

Of those who have installed the scuttle rally vent can you tell me what happens when it rains? I think I got the image, but wanted to see if anyone has figured out a way of diverting water. Also, have you noticed a real improvement in ventilation?

Hello John -

I have my vent ducted down to the foot well in my vintage racer. It does help the air flow through the cockpit, especially in the heat of battle. Prior to taking the track in the rain, I place a 2" piece of clear packaging tape over the vent area to seal it. You'd never know it's there and it's easily removed when dry. I works ever time.

A few years back I was at the British Heritage Museum in Gayden UK. They have an early rally car which had a vent. We were allowed to get inside the cockpit and look under the dash. What they had was a custom made canister that mounted under the vent that had baffles in it with a small hinged door that opened up to allow air flow. If it rained the baffles prevented water from coming through the vent door . At the bottom was a drain hole that had a hose attached with the hose dropping through the trans cover.

yes that is what I did. I will try and find the photos I took at British Heritage. How's the car coming along ? We just got back picking Jeff Johnks Healey up from Fourintune.
