Raising a 71

I am starting to reburbish a 71B. It sits low to the ground. I think I can put higher profile tires on the original wire rims. Any other way to raise the car? some one told me GT springs will work. I'd like to keep as original as possible but the car is simply too low to drive. Suggestions??
 
There are springs you can use to raise the front - heavier GT springs will do the same on the rear.
 
Do we know there are no broken leaves in the rear?

"Too low to drive" is kinda interesting... there wasn't much ground clearance to start with until the RB cars, y'know. Man hole covers can remove the exhaust system in an eyeblink on the early cars. :wink:
 
Yes, I'd look for bent/broken/damaged parts first. Do you have a Bentley or Hayes manual for reference?

The current springs may be tired & sagged if they are original, too.

Like Doc says; there was not much ground clearance to begin with. These were never intended for off road adventures.

Circa 1972, the front springs were changed. Check the Moss catalog, their front spring 264-375 is up to chassis 293445. From there to the end of the chrome bumper cars (chassis 361000) is Moss part # 264-380. The later springs sits a bit higher. All chrome bumper GTs use front spring Moss #264-390.

For Chrome bumper cars, there are just GT or Tourer springs.

Bear in mind the GT springs have a slightly higher spring rate, (as the GT is slightly heavier) so it's going to ride a bit firmer. You will also raise the center of gravity a little, also.
