I can stay reasonably dry in my BJ8 with the hood down in all but the worst downpours by keeping the speed over 60MPH. As for what other motorists think, well, they already assume you're nuts for driving an old British sports car anyway (they probably assume the hood's not up because your multi-geared/levered electrohydraulic hood-raising mechanism is INOP).
 
Gents, as said some posts ago, my car does not hae the scuttle seals fitted. So I have ordered those. When looking at my car I saw that the ridges of the wing and the dash board are not aligned. The dash board ridge is a little bit lower than the one of the wing (see attached photo). Is that expected? Volker

No. When your car left the factory they were probably reasonably aligned. But, fitting the body panels on these cars is tricky; move one part and another won't align. I'd guess your car has been disassembled at one time--maybe a wing was replaced--and this was as close as they could get it (and may be why they didn't re-install the scuttle seal). The 'dash board ridge' is actually part of the front shroud, which doesn't have much if any adjustment, but if you move the wing it probably won't align somewhere else.
 
You could probably massage the fender flange down a little, lift the scuttle flange up a little, and arrive at a reasonable compromise that the seal will adapt to.

Just so you know, even under the best of conditions, those seals aren't easy to fit; another aspect of the Healey designed by Satan!

And oh, your shift lever boot is upside down; the rubber cup is supposed to go over the upturned steel cup on the xmsn to protect the pivot-ball from the ingress of road debris.
 
Got the seals. No idea which one to fit left and which one to fit right as well as on the procedure to fit them. Anybody there to give me some advice? Volker
