I believe there are few things in life more enjoyable than a beater-boat. We spent a day early last week cleaning up ours and mounting the engine I overhauled this past winter and it's looking ok for a 35 year old tub. The seats and um, <span style="font-style: italic">brightwork</span>, were sanded and revarnished after the pictures were taken.

"Launch day" dawned cloudy and rainy. So did the next. So has today. Our dock is currently 2 feet under water and I just finished dragging our kayaks and other floating stuff to high ground.

And the forecast for tomorrow is the same. And the day after....

A really pleasant looking skiff, John! I <span style="font-style: italic">like</span> the older boats. Complexity is the enemy, IMO. :wink:
 
I would like to get a nice 16ft sailboat. When I was stationed in Greece in teh 80's, our site had a speedboat and a little sailboat. Both were fun, but I really enjoyed the challenge of getting the sail boat to go where you wanted it to go.
 
I agree re the sailboat. I've had several small sailboats over the years & would love another. Our place here isn't too friendly to them, though, since it's a river that's narrow & shallow in places.
 
I learned on a CAL-20......if I needed another sailboat, that would be my choice.
 
My "trainer" was a day sailer, an O'Day "Sprite" IIRC. . Then a Ray Greene "Rebel". An 18 footer. Lightning class.

I want those days back. :jester:
 
John, that a Boston Whaler? We had one of those at Scout camp for a ski boat. It was the best ol' boat ever. You could just hammer that thing and it loved it.
Dad's got a Cal-25 up on Seneca Lake now. That's an absolute joy to spend an afternoon out sailing up the lake, then spend the evening in the harbor.

Yes, it's a 14 foot 1977 vintage Boston Whaler. Original engine also although it's now sort of "merged" with another of the same vintage.

You guys have lots of great lakes up your way - upstate NY is way underappreciated by the rest of the country, I think.

My biggest sailboat was a 14' Cape Dory cat rigged centerboarder w/ 2 rowing stations. Lots of versatility in such a small boat.
