The 5 tube super het in my 50 Ford....got it from a junkyard in 1970 (had no radio...factory blank plate) and it has been a pain in the hindquarters ever since.
First, the centre tap on the power transformer was bad...found another (taller), modified the cover by bending.
IF coils died at various times...caps..tubes..quit again 6 months ago and I'm tired of futzing with it.

Three weeks ago today, while donating a neighbor's old van to a Church, I see a pair of 49-51 fordors (proper spelling) under the trees...rusted to all get out....ask if I can pull parts.
Sure. Gonna scrap them.

Radiators, grilles, instrument cluster (complete), some side trim, and in the dash is a radio.
Just looking from outside I knew what it was...the extra-cost, high-end, OZF Zenith 8-tube push-pull, with knobs.

Opened and cleaned the vibrator, replace the shorted 1600V buffer cap, three more coupling caps, the main filters (three separate instead of can), and even though I haven't worked on an 8-tube for...at least 50 years....it is in the dash today, and works flawlessly.

Now to fix the 5-tube and put it on the shelf.
