Does anybody here still use the "full size" speakers and amplifiers in the house?

Tom

My ex got the 12" Altec Lansing speakers that we drug from student housing in Berkeley to Idaho and back. :madder: They won't fit in my current house, though.

You have a PM sir.

To bring us back to task:

Some of my best customers were the hobbyists. Couldn't keep enough electronic components in stock for some of them. Then the CB craze hit. Radios were sold before they even arrived in the store.

And there were some other customers who found ~other~ uses for some of our products. Couldn't keep enough alligator clips on hand in the first store I managed on St. Charles Ave., in downtown New Orleans.

I've got a pair of walnut Sansui's with the wood mesh grilles driven by a Kenwood 4140.

I'm still using a Realistic STA-2380 receiver and a Optimus Equalizer and my home-made 12" 3-way speakers, all Realistic parts. The system must be at least 35 years old, but it still rattles my windows.

Not everyone :square:

Bought a Heathkit TV at a garage sale. Managed to get it up a flight of stairs only to find it didn't work. Heaviest thing I ever lifted in my life! Left it sitting on a table at the foot of the bed cause it was too heavy to haul outside. When my place was robbed, the only thing left was the TV....left sitting in the middle of the floor. Guess it was the heaviest thing they ever lifted too. It was the only thing I wish they would have taken.

Soooo....

Where'd ya go fer yours, then?

 :jester:

It's funny. We just found some old "electronics stuff" during a clean out of our lab at school. Plenty of old vacuum tubes (including a giant one) and even an old telegraph "clicker".

We're passing them on to a local olde-tyme electronics group (I think all the guys are HAMS).

My previous office mate (and still a good friend) has a tube tester and lots of tubes (he didn't want any of the ones we have......"too common"). He also collects typewriters and used to drive a Citroen and an MG-TD.
A real weirdo.

I was less Radio Shack and more Popular Science/Popular Mechanics build-it-yourself-projects (I'm an ME, so I really makes more sense).
I built all sorts of things from those magazines when I was a kid. My Dad built a steam engine project that I still have: it influenced me greatly.

Here's ~A Book~ suitable for a mechanical guy like me. Printed in '47. Still cool. I have a copy at work: my students love it....even the gals.
