My alpine cassette player that I bougth in 86 finally gave up the ghost. I have had it in 5 different cars with the midget being the last. I don't listen to it much but do like to hear the news in the mornings on the way to work. I've been looking at cd receivers to replace it. Seems like I only have about 5.5 to 6 inches max for mounting depth without cutting into the heater plenum. I was wondering what others have done here. I could probably fab up a new console to hold the radio and speakers but would find a radio that might fit.
Thanks in advance,
JC

I have a CD in mine, I just tilted the console out a little bit at the bottom and just used the side ear tabs to screw it in place. Do not get a radio with a rear entry antenna.
Most have side pig tails for the antenna. And watch any rear entry plugs too.

I spaced my radio/cd with a wooden spacer on the front of the console. cd ingress/egress only in 2 and 4th.

Down here in Johannesburg

Similar to the other Mark I had a spacer placed at the back of the console so the radio/CD player is flush at the console front. CD's can only be in/out in 2nd and 4th. However, on the console I added a cigarette lighter to which I plug the Ipod travelmate and tune to a missing frquency. No bumps etc. There is a but, sometimes when changing into 1st or 3rd the leather around the gear lever pushes a button and I get some other station.

I removed the center console all together and put my Kenwood in the glove box and my 200 watt amp in the trunk. For speakers I bought a $20 pair of speakers in a very nice wooden box that was wrapped in vinyl, threw out the speakers and installed a pair of Power Base speakers. Rock and Roll baby.

240 watt CQ-9700 (?) panasonic with built in 7 band EQ, kicker component set.....10 inch sub in trunk........
sounds like heaven...

i probably have one of the nicer midget sound
systems considering the theft risk.....z

I have an outstanding sound system. It's called an exhaust at 5K. Grandson even likes it. LOL

the rest of the time Im looking out of idiots in SUVs

I bought a Sony CDX-MEX1. It is a cd player with a 1gig of flash memory in the faceplate. That way I can listen to the MP3's instead of fooling with the discs. May newer decks have usb inputs on them but I didn't want to be fooling with a flash drive going down the road. Thanks for all the input from everyone. I'll have to work on it a bit as the mouting depth is 6.5 inches. It will be a little long. Also I think the din width is 7.25", just a bit wider than the current opening.
