My fan had a meeting with my radiator last week...
I am in the process of removing it to get it rebuilt.
From past postings it seems like upgrading to a 4 core serpentine is one way to go ( thanks Keoke for your post in Sept. ).

Are there questions I should ask the radiator shop about these old cars ( 58 BN6)?

Are there new radiators, etc. out there that members have used?

I would appreciate any advice.
 
The avenue I took was to buy an uprated re-core from British Car Specialists. After I received the new one in the mail, I put mine in their box and shipped it back. They will refund a core deposit once they get it back. They also carry aluminum rads, but I elected to stick with the stock appearance.

As usual, Mr Greg is spot on. That's the easiest way to do it. Or you can bring your radiator to a shop and have them replace your core with a newer design, (with dimples too) and keep the stock bottom and top pieces. If your top and bottom pieces are are in good shape, then compare prices for the end product.

So Greg, you elected to stick with the stock appearance. I agree. You wouldn't want to take any focus off your carb set up. Just having fun with you. You know I'm jealous.

Really guys, Greg's attention to detail is superb. Just check out how perfect his carb set up is in the photo he includes with his posts. If you look real close you can see his pearly whites in one of the reflections :smile:

Trust me guys, I don't want to irritate Greg. He's one of the go-to guys here.

I agree that Greg is a go to guy. I had my radiator recored this summer. I took it to a good radiator shop and they sourced the core to a rebuild shop that had the Healey specs. They upgraded mine to 14 fins/inch in the serpentine design with 3 rows of tubes. It works perfectly. They used the original tanks.
 
Another point, why did your fan meet the radiator? Did you not have the steady bracket tight at the rear of the transmission? Check the rubber things (I'm drawing a blank) oh yes, bushings to see if they have rotted in oil. I replaced mine with polyurethane.

Not quite sure, I was not braking, just cruising at a slow speed. i think the blade broke at the rivet/ or connection point.
I will check the U shaped bracket at the transmission once i get it lifted.

....I just had my rad recored in ABQ, It is the "A Radiator Shop" on San Mateo, I got the "high priced spread" as I run a V8, wow it sure made a difference, no over heating now.
Used the same tanks etc.

You can also check out RADTEC.co.uk - the price is better, radiator looks good too - bought one for a 100.
