MGB Radiator fans - 1978 MGB

After a nice short run this morning in 96 deg.F heat I parked the beast in the driveway. About 20 min. later I got back in and turned the key (not all the way to start) and heard a louder than normal sound from the fans so I looked under the hood to see and found only one of two running at quite a clip.
I turned the key off, then back to that position and neither cut on when the engine cranked. I am truely hoping this is a fuse or contact corrosion problem but with my luck it's probably worse. I don't have a good wiring schematic handy, so can anyone tell me what clour wires I might need to check or any other hints?

Thanks,
-Mike

The wiring on the fans is brown/green, but I think you need to have a look at the wiring schematic.

You can find one online at www.advanceautowire.com. Click on the stock schematics button and it will take you to a .pdf of the wiring diagram.

Sorry I couldn't offer more help.

That louder than normal sound you heard from the fans was probably from the bushings. Cleaning and lubricating the fan motors may solve the problem - at least for a while. I had that problem with one of mine. The clean and lube fixed it for a while, but not for long. Fortunately I was able to get a good used fan motor for $20 instead of having to mortgage the homestead to buy a new one. If either of them die again, I may switch to an aftermarket fan...

Mike, i pulled a pair of fans from a rough 79 MGB parts car. They are untested and just gonna cost you shipping from NC if you want them. PM a address if you want them in the mail! Bob

Robert,
Just a note to thank you again. I got them and will get them tested. I will put a check in the mail to you on Monday.

I suppose with temperatures in the upper 90's it would be madness to take Miss B out for a drive without having the fans working.

Cheers,
Mike

I would for sure. But just around the corner. My fan, even in the Texan 101 degrees doesn't come on till after 5 to 10 minutes of driving. I have an idiot light in the car wired to the fans so I can keep an eye on what "they" are doing.

Incidentally the light lit dimly when they are off and I am moving. Do you Guys think I am reverse charging my battery's?
