Just curious about what the "learn-ed" forum has to say on this.
Is there a difference in cooling between the crossflow and downflow radiator in A serie's cars?
I've been told by experienced spridget guys that the crossflow cools better than the downflow but when you compare the core area it appears the downflow should cool better.
I have a crossflow in a 66 midget and would like to change it back because the crossflow seems to gradually get air in it and unless I watch the temp and top it up It could be a problem. Down flow is much simpler.

On another Spridget list, we have a thermo dynamics engineer, This question has come up several times.
So he did the math, both radiators cool exactly the same. The downflow is built better than the crossflow so he determined the downflow was the better bang for the buck simply because it is an easier radiator to install, less hoses too.
Personally, I like the downflows. I never had any problems with them but I have had problems with the cross flows and I hate to no drain set up on the crossflows.
