When you buy a salisbury domestically are you removing it from a Jaguar or is someone selling a kit? Only asking since the "Salisbury" is fairly common in the US, except it's usually called a "Dana 44". Comes in solid axle versions under trucks & older cars and independent versions in cars like the C4 corvettes. The only difference I've been able to find a reference to between the "Salisbury" that is my father's Tiger axle and the Dana 44 in my jeep is the diameter of the ring gear bolts, so if someone domestically is selling a kit they may just be using more available Dana 44 IRS units instead of Jaguar Salisbury units which could be bringing the price down.

Ken Gillanders at www.britishframeandengine.com offers both Quaiffe and Salisbury for for TR2-TR6... brand new units. I'm sure both of these fit some other LBCs, but don't know the details of that.

Good to know the Dana 44 is basically the same unit! That might be a cost effective option.

I'm pretty sure there is a similar Detroit Locker, too. I saw an older one installed in a TR live axle sell on our favorite auction site a few months ago, but I don't know the details. (I'm refering to a real LSD here, put away that welder! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

There's another item, called Phantom Grip, that some are using on street cars and have recommended. It's far cheaper, doesn't appear to be a "true LSD", but I've only seen photos and have no experience with it.

I think there is actually a fairly narrow range of sizes and designs of diffs, many manufacturers from the 1950s thru 1980s probably used off the shelf items, so likely there's a lot more interchangeability than we realize.

Just as an fyi - and I have no interest either way - I keep hearing that the phantom grip is a pos. Do your own research, ymmv. Try import tuner sites for a real unvarnished opinion...

I thought about it, the Quaife and the Salisbury before going with the R200. If cost had been no option I'd have done one of the other two mentioned (likely the Salisbury), but the cost was going to be astronomical by the time I'd finished getting one installed.
