went out to run an errand tonight, got home and Mrs JP says "you missed the excitement." she had walked into the kitchen and there is a raccoon in the room. It takes one look at her and bolts outside. Our screen door closes but doesn't always latch. It had pushed open the door and come in the house. It then proceeded to spend the best part of the evening trying to get in again, To the point that I went to another door, to get the hose to shoo it away and it was at that door. (of course the cats were no help at all)

My late bil had a party one night and as the guests were leaving a baby skunk wandered into the house and into the hall closet, don't know how they got it out. true story and another true one, A girl my wife worked with was in the shower one night and her hubby called her and said "we have a visitor" and when she came downstairs a racoon had come down the chimney and walked all across their white carpet.She called the police dept and a female officer arrived and asked what she wanted her to do and my wifes friend replied, shoot it to which the officer replied that she was not allowed to discharge her firearm unless there were dire circumstances. She did however call animal control for them.

I have an animal in the house that shouldn't be story from this month; I go into my bathroom, lift the lid and seat of the toilet and... there's a frog. There's a frog on the rim in the space between the bowl and the seat. Not just any frog but an elusive gray tree frog. Never seen one before in my life. The thing I still can't figure out is how he got in. There are screens on every window and two cats on the prowl. I wonder if he hitched a ride on me?

One of my neighbours near our lake house has a wild raccoon that was their "pet". It came in and out of their house all the time. I never thought it was a good idea and kept my kids away (always invited their kids to my house).

Another neighbour had a tree-climbing snake enter their house through the roof-mounted vent pipe (and into their tub). I had to go and collect it.....my kids brought it to school and it lived in the school bio-room for years after.

Recently had an opportunity to observe the skulls of a raccoon and a bear, site-by-side. No difference whatsoever. Raccoons are or can be vicious little buggers. One recently backed me off at 3 am when I heard him in my garbage cans.

Actually, folks around here ( mostly in the Black community) consider them a delicacy for barbeque. I have eaten them. Ain't half bad.....
 
Less slimy than 'possum, Bill.

We had a raccoon (rabid) fall out of a tree in our front yard a few years back. Ever since, I assume any one of 'em is rabid.

They're cagy critters, once watched a 'family' of 'em bucket-brigade the chosen contents of a dumpster off to their abode. Cooperative when it suits 'em.
 
When I was young my grandfather had a tame pet racoon named Bandit. They found it on the side of the road next to it's mom that had been hit by a car.
That was the craziest critter I ever got to be around. He'd play "king of the dock" when we went swimmin in the pond, and was always trying to sneak food at picnics and campfires. Absolutely loved cheezies. He's hoard em behind the couch. He liked to ride on your shoulders too.
Loved to watch him handle things. You could see the intelligence there.
Currently we are on a woodchuck hunt. Got one diggin holes under my shed. He's gotta go!
