Considering conversion to R&P w/TR6 rack on my SP250. Anyone have suggestions on eliminating bump steer??? I did a Google and have the basics for where the "neutral" position is supposed to be, just wondering if anyone has done it and/or has suggestions. let me see if I understand your question....

You're looking for a Daimler SP250 mechanic,
WHO has custom-fitted a TR6 steering rack....
AND understands bump steer geometry and can give you some advice.....

Sorry, just kind of thought the obscurity of that one was kinda funny when I first read it...... I mean no offense - what will be even funnier is if someoe here fits that description!!!!! (and I wouldn't doubt that someone here does)

so many possible responses come to mind, so few suitable for posting:lol actually, someone in the UK is going to send me what is supposed to be a very complete "wiki" on doing the conversion. the DLOC crowd has a great library of SP fixes.

Most likely. One of the downsides of the conversion -to me at least- is the loss of the original wheel and center turn signal lever. But, I guess I won't need as big a diameter wheel to horse the front around. As long as the length fits the pocket in the tonneau I can live without the adjustable feature. It's been a year now and I'm starting to get a little impatient...all the while having the newer one to drive. Did you see the ad for an SP in the dloc-na newsletter?
 
Dale, If I'm thinking right the SP 250 chassis is very close to a TR3 is it not? I would think that info on doing that conversion on a TR3 would be very close to the Daimler.
I can't remember if the SP250 race car we had at the shop had been converted or not. I wanna say it was, but I don't know. I DO know that the Mercedes 300SL grille on that car looked like it was a factory option. I have to say I liked it over the original grille. (if I can find a pic I'll post it)
I think the biggest thing on bump steer is to keep the tie rods as atraight as possible when the car is sitting on the ground.

Thanks Ben. Yes, a lot of TR3 design and parts were used. Do you know who the owner of the race car is/was?
There were no option grills, but I would like to see a pic if you can find one. Never thought about an alternative grill.

I think we're going to go with the TR rack; I trust my restorer to figure this out as best possible. It's not like I am going to AX or race it.

You ever find out what year 4-runner running boards are the same as the 06?
 
I have done that conversion.
It was a 62 Dart and I put in a TR6 rack.
There was a mounting kit from that guy in Ipswitch Massachusetts.
The fan shaft had to be removed to keep the rack high enough for the bump steer.
An electric fan was mounted, along with an overflow reciever for the coolant.
