Quick rear brake question

Yep, that looks like what Doc said...& building them off the car is the only way to do it, IMHO!
 
Umm.... Cylinder side spring is on bass-ackwards. Part that sticks thru should put tension on the e-brake linkage. Just a minor detail. Otherwise, yer good-to-go! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif


EDIT: Lookin' at it, I *think* the cylinder springs are swapped side-to-side!

The kick on the spring should be up. Kinda hard to install the hub the way it is.

Oh, yeah - it does cut the hub opening....good eye, Doc!

Careful, Barry: B's are "upside-down" compared to the Spridget. But it DOES show the sticking out part of the cylinder spring as riding the "slot" side of the e-brake link, not the "odd-shaped hole" side.

And regardless of Mr. Twist's assertion, the manual illustration (Bentley, anyhoo) is NOT wrong.

Sorry, Mark. MGB rear plates have the adjuster at the top, Spridgets have it at the bottom.... all the rest is pretty much the same configuration.


...and it has a disquietingly familiar resemblance to Jaybird's infamous "Quick carb question" of a year ago.
 
That's kinda what got me started inna first place, Jeff: I think the two sides each have the other's top springs.
 
You would be correct in that assumption, sir. There are right and left springs on a Spridget, and this one looks like a right spring on a left brake. If I wasn't so pooped I'd go out in the garage and assemble a set of brakes & take pix.

NOT GOOD, Jeff! Stuff SOMETHIN' down yer gob.

Mark: all is right in the last photo but the spring. It belongs on the other side, and the "leg" sticking thru the shoe should push on the e-brake link, not hang down toward the adjuster.
 
After expecting to be able to put my rear brakes and suspension together, I find that my new brake cylinders do not fit. The metal post beside the bleeder ( I don't know the name of this piece) is on the wrong side so it will not fit on the backplate. Will not make as much progress this weekend as I had hoped.

Assuming the cylinder is the correct one (ie the right size) can you ream/ drill the hole some?
 
Don't assume the cylinder is the correct one for the car. You MAY have a cylinder for a later version by mistake. Double check with your parts source.
