What size are the fittings that go into the Sprite MKI MC?
I thought they were 3/8-24 UNF.

But... those seem really sloppy. Have I lost that much thread to rust, or do I have the wrong size?

All ya need, Trev, is enough pressure (from the threads) on the pipe end bubble-flare to seat/seal it.
 
I know doc, but I'm dreading the moment when I tighten it down. You know the feeling ... jest a 1/4 turn more... then slip-pop! Stripped the threads.

I'll cross the bridge when I come to it.

Another "material" to use to bodge it is (and this is one of those: "I would recommend AGAINST it" schemes) a small piece of an aluminum can instead of Teflon tape. Bit more stout. Thin brass shim stock works even better.

Yup tandem cylinder.
 
If this is a flared fitting there is a product used in aviation that fits over the nose of the male fitting. This is a thin brass or copper cup that gives a crushable seal for worn or scored fittings. You have to get the correct size so there is no flow restriction and never re-use them. I get mine from Aircraft Spruce, look under fluid or hydraulics. They are called "Del 37 degree fitting cones"
 
His issue is the female thread diameter in this circumstance. The only way I know to add thread is to R&R the M/C and heli-coil ALL the holes. GAH. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif
 
The crushable fitting cone allows a good seal with lower torque than usually needed without.
 
Works on bubble flairs? May be an alternative.
 
I know an AN3 female fitting works to a bubble flare, so this might be an option.
 
Well, I can say that I have drilled and tapped JB Weld, but for a pressure system fitting, I'd hope teflon tape would work. If it didn't (and for brakes) I wouldn't risk my life or the life of Heather Peters for nothing short than replacing the fitting or the part.
