Quick OD Fix

In the newly-found spirit of quick fix here, I thought I'd add mine to the mix. A little while back, I managed to 'lose' my OD relief valve, thinking its plug was the OD drain plug. I found the valve body, plunger and filter as I was emptying the old gearbox oil into a bin. Thinking the rest had to have fallen in the bin that had since been emptied, I set about ordering a new one.

Fast forward to yesterday, changing the oil in my truck. I dropped the drain plug in the drain pan; no big deal, I get it out. However, I find other things when I'm picking out the drain plug...you guessed it. The other parts to my relief valve! WHEW! $100 bullet dodged!

To conclude a long story, I reassembled the pieces, reinstalled them, and I have my overdrive back! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Now how are we supposed to get up to 20 pages if you've already fixed it?!!
Really, that's good news.

Well, that was quick!

...and nobody sent you anything for free after it got to 20 pages. So you could start a new thread on fixing that freebie that'll go longer then the first - LOL.

Ya know Kenny...that's not a half bad idea...anyone got any freebies for me? I like old SUs and 25d dizzies :p

...and moss superchargers, and interior replacements /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Josh - Good thing we didn't order THAT part! Lucky break for you...WOW!! Congrats...maybe I need to look in the bottom of my parts washer to see what I can find....

Hehehe...come to think of it, I could use a good carpet set. But first, fix the floorboards' surface rust. A little POR15 and a good wire wheel should take care of that though.

Tony, I'll still be hitting you up for a set of rack boots and possibly the slave cyl hose within the next day or so. Putting those boots on should be loads of fun...I've never separated a tie rod end by myself though. I've got a couple of good manuals and the board's support, so I should be just fine.

Do yerself a favour and go get a "pickeling fork" to whack the rod ends... or a good clamp 'n screw style seperator. It'll save you a TON of frustration and time.

Just be sure to order new tie rod end dust covers if you use a pickle fork, as it usually tears the heck outta the old ones.
Or you could leave the outer tie rod ends on the steering knuckles, and just turn the inners out like you were adjusting the toe, just keep going until the end is off.(they gotta come off anyway)
Make sure to mark where they were adjusted to first

Either way works...I've gotta order some covers anyway to replace a few I've torn up removing the ends for cleaning & resale
