Spitfire Quick fix for spitfire sag

Did some work on a clubmembers spit last week.It had the classic squat in the back due to spring sagging. After a little research came up with a part # for a shock that came with a spring mounted to it that was a near perfect bolt on.This brought the car up in the rear to nearly perfect height. They were 70$ each, but they will save some nice new tires from a terrible fate. If anybody is interested I have the part # at work...

The "classic" substitute has long been air shocks that fit 1963-82 (or thereabouts) Corvette rear end, and I know many people like this. Personally, I think it makes more sense to fix the problem: replace the spring, preferably with the "heavy-duty" version some vendors sell.

Most times its just the buttons that go between the springs that cause the issue. My new HD spring has that prob. must have used cheap chinese rubber for the buttons as they are smashed flat. When I get time I'll make some new ones from Delrin or PTFE.

yup, replace the buttons between the springs leaves with iether the teflon or nylon. makes it all more better. and cheaper than a new spring

The Gabrial part # is 34036 it is OTC at Advance and others. The only mod is to remove the lower bushing on the Gabrial and use the bushing from the original shock.Takes 5 minutes and a little grunt as the shock is 1.5 in longer than stock. This lifts the back of the car up to its original ride height and corrects the camber. Its a nice quick fix,and if you want to latter go back stock, nothing is harmed.
