Quick Engine Install for Bugsy II

Team,

I need to recall the trick with engine mounts, one on the motor, one still attached to the body. Which one goes where?

Also, transmission bolts - I think there are 4 long bolts. But what do I need back there to secure the engine/tranny for transport. Nick just told me he thinks he can have a lift available when I get there tomorrow to pick up Bugsy II. Transporting Engine/tranny in the car is much safer than having a engine/tranny breaking loose and rolling around in the trailer. It can also help me avoid the issue in customs of having Bugsy II declared as an unassembled kit of parts and thus Ohio making me register as an "Unassembled Car- 2014/2015 Kit Car."

Anyone have pics of the transmission bolts or what size bolts are needed for the transmission mount?

By this time tommorrow I should be close to Detroit and crossing the border around 9:30 - 10:00. Getting close. Bugeye Anticipation. Thanks guys:fat:

OK note I had from Gerard says I need , a 5/16"-24 bolt through each side of the tunnel (from interior) is all you'd need anyway.

How long a bolt do I need?

1.5" should be plenty long.

Drivers side pedestal attached to the car. Complete passenger side mount fixed to the engine.

That's what I needed thanks Trevor. Not going to bother with Driveshaft. Will pull out, although do I want it so I can transport in gear, I think not. Tie down to radiator suports in the front plus straps through wheels and wheels plus rear axle trying to avoid brake lines in the back.

If no driveshaft, then drain the transmission. Tie down the same components each end.... by that I mean, Either secure the a-frames and rear axle, or secure the radiator supports and rear bumper mounts. I prefer to strap the aframes and the rear axle. Let the suspension work. Crossing your straps ie LF aframe strapped to RH floor ring.

Tranny is drained, has been that way for 28 years,

Motor Mount Bolts, What size bolts and Nuts , Length?

New will certainly work better. I know they are fine thread.

5/16 x 24 x 1.5" for back of tranny

Motor Mounts - Need 4 that are thinking like 1 1/2 or 2" long Size please?

Peter, Lots and lots of straps going with me to Canada. Trailer has some nice Tie Down Rings to secure to. I will let suspension work.

Motot Mount Bolts are ? Size Please?

Most likely 5/16. I can't check at the moment.

I picked up some 5/16 24 x 1 & 1 1/2 + nuts. Hopefully the correct size for Motor mounts, Gots 5/16/x/24 x12/5" for Tranny

3/4" is plenty. 1" if you want.

Bottom bolts are 3/8"-24, 3.5", IIRC, but you won't need them.

Jim,

The motor mount to engine plate takes (4) 5/16"x 24 nuts (2 per side)
The back side of the motor mount, I believe is 3/8"-24 nut (one per side)
Motor mount bracket to frame (3 per side) is 5/16-24. 1 inch should be plenty. You'll spend a lot more time wrenching the extra 1/2" on all the bolts... :wink-new:

Use a couple zip ties for the radiator (through bolt holes). You might take a pack of some long ones for similar jobs like securing dash, etc.

I prefer axles straps over rear axle and hold downs over A-arms or frame horns.

Got it Gerard. Thanks I'll send pics to all..

Have a safe trip Jim. Take some "journey" pix along the way too. Best of luck and I look forward hearing about the adventure.

Safe trip Jim, sorry we can't connect i presume all is sorted in terms of help. When do you plan to leave Burlington?

JP if I can get turned around I may start back right away. All depends how long it takes to drop that mighty 948 into place.
