Queston - Drive belt

Well obviously Moss does not know what length a Bugeye takes as they sent two of the wrong size. These seem to be at least 3 inchs too long.

I can not seem to find the size/length in my manuals.

Can anyone help with a length or # and brand or such.

Metric number 11A0915
Effective Length: 36.00 in.
Outside Circum.: 36.60 in.
Top Width: 0.44
Angle: 36 deg.

This is for a 1962 Midget but it should be the same.

Well I thought wrong, 36 inchs it too long for a Bugeye, eye ball wise it looks more like 33 would fit.

Any one care to look and see what is printed on theirs tonite?

I am not at home right now, but on my 948 with a Lucas generator, I am using a NAPA 257345 belt. Fortunately, I have a NAPA store nearby with a counter person who cares enough to work with me and search for the right part. I tried several belts and found that this one gave me plenty of room for adjustment.

Jack, are you sure you have the correct bracket? I once had a similar problem, and it was due to an incorrect bracket.

Oh goodness trevor, bet I have the wrong one. it is short straight and maybe 3 inchs long???????

Sorry it is 4 inchs long and fully extended the generator top is just level with the bottom of the head, seems like it needs to be higher for sure so that the tac drive will clear the dizzy.

Hmmm, been out in the garage. Seems the standoff for the generator the slide bar to adjust tension is too short.

Mine is 4 inchs and should be about 6 inchs bolt to bolt with maybe a bit more for an older worn bolt.

Could someone run out to the garage and measure for me the distance between the bolt on the front engine mount and the bolt on the generator for the other end of the link adjuster. Bolt to bolt please.

I further note that this additional length allows pleanty of room for the tac drive to clear the duzzy.

Always something isn't it.

Jack, mine's set at about 6", with maybe another 1" or so of adjustability left (so could swing higher if the belt were longer). The tack drive clears the dizzy just fine.

That's it Drew, I found the problem, now just need to find one.

Hmm, VB wants 8.95 + shipping and Moss wants the same. Guess that's my choices unless someone has an extra?

Jack........

Take one of those long belts or an old belt that is the right width...and with the movable pulley (alt etc.) in the short (er) adjustment position ...CUT the belt (cut square) and put the belt in the grooves and overlap the end(s) ...pull snug and cut again.

Measure the OUTSIDE length and hit the NAPA or parts store. You now have a gage.

Ahh, that was not clear, looking for a generator slide bracket is about 8 1/2 inchs long.

Bolt hole in one end and a slot 2/3 of the rest of the way. Is used to adjust fan belt.

The one I have is like 4 inchs long, it just might be from a Mini cause it is indeed mini.

I am not positive about this but I thought that there are (at least) two different pully diameters for A-block generators and the Sprites for different years/locations came with either. The larger one was basically the "racing" pulley to slow down the generator for less drag. The belt that they sent may have been for this application. If this is true then there should be two listings for belts in any of the catalogs (or was this accomplished through use of the longer adjuster bracket?) I don't remember.
