... Seems a little ridiculous to lose points in a show because you didn't bring a fire extinguisher...

Agreed. I think concours judging sets the high bar for judging "standards" (oxymoron) and there if you carry a fire extinguisher AND THE CAR DIDN'T LEAVE THE FACTORY WITH IT or it is not a DEALER INSTALLED option, you have to remove it to be judged.

Read the fine print...next time you may have to have an obscure particular type of fire extinguisher...available from a single source...the show chairman.

Fire Extinguishers are a safety item and are required at a lot of shows sponsored by clubs with a national affiliation. This is what the judging rules for the AACA (Antique Automobile Association of America) Judging Rules Say:

"4. FAILURE TO HAVE AN APPROVED
FIRE EXTINGUISHER RESULTS IN DIS-
QUALIFICATION. The fire extinguisher
must be UL approved or equivalent
and fully charged. The minimum for all
vehicles is a UL Type 1-A: 5-B:C. The
extinguisher need not be permanently
mounted, but must be clearly visible
and readily available."

Few if any shows deduct for safety items (seat belts for instance).

Well, if they're gonna deduct for not having a fire extinguisher then they damned well better decuct for having MGB/C chromed wire wheels on an MG TF!

The point I was trying to make is that fire extinguishers are a safety item, not a show item. It's unusual to lose points instead of being disqualified. I wouldn't be surprised if it's an insurance company requirement.

Well they were not hard over but next time I will not take the chance and funny thing. They did ask were the trunk was. Hehe.

I painted mine with Rustoleum hammertone paint; they came out pretty nice. I sanded them down, primed, masked off the grille, and sprayed them. I then painted the grille with an artist's brush and aluminum paint.

Jack, you shoulda said the extinguisher was way back in the trunk...way back...wanna crawl in and look?

He might have to bring one of them home if they got stuck looking for it.

Steve, those air filters are lovely, you did a super job. Hope I can do as well.

They look just as I remember from years ago.
