She starts and runs too good.

I can not get the RPM down to acceptable levels.

Throtle adjustment screws clear off. Linkage is adjusted properly. Used WD 40 to test for leaks. Flats at 11 both.

Supose the needles need to be adjusted out a bit, can you have them too close to flat?
 
What rpm is it idling at?

Are the throttle plates seating properly in the throat?
 
Maybe 2K.

Yes I think so but I can lower the needles to make them seat further in? Or not turn so many flats I think?
 
Great news, No exhaust, 2k rpm, neighbors must love you.

Different terms... are the butterflys closing completely? If they are slightly misaligned, then you'll have high idle conditions.
 
Yep, think so, will check again. Yep, peaked in side, they are both closed tightly and the throtle adjusting screws are well of the stops, free gap under them.

Running very rich indeed.
 
Ok then, unless I get a better answer will move the needles south just a bit. Maybe .010 for starters.

Charging this new battery at the moment. If it had a full charge my name is Fred.
 
I just checked the needles with a very sharp straight edge and readjusted both for what it is worth.

I note that I have a carb leaking down the mixture adjusting bolt again.

Those darn cork gaskets I think. I am going to do Franks trick tomorrow and use O rings from the Hardware. If they are leaking outiside and one is it is prob leaking inside as well.
 
Other than carbs for hi revs, is vac advance OK? isn't sticking is it? Yeah, lose the cork in favor of rubber! also check for vaccuum leaks(manifold - dizzy - throttle plate shafts, etc.) although these would not indicate a rich condition I don't think!
 
Vac adv is pluged.

Tried new o rings, think they need to be a bit smaller in diam, and fatter, will get some tomorrow morning.

Still leaks like a seive. That is my prob for sure.
