Ok she cranks fine. Now what. a hot wire to the plus side of the coil and ground the other side?

Nope

Check the schematic, I recall one side going to the dizzy.

Yes of course, forget which one off hand but it is hooked up as well.
 
Hot to the plus side of the coil if you are negative ground only- did you switch?
 
Not yet, but i think I will. the other wires are not hooked up to anything.
