Question

Regarding "Corn Head" grease. Years ago I serviced Walker brand ZTR mowers. They required this type of grease in the gear boxes. The closest Walker dealer is:

Stiles OPE, Inc.
799 Navy Street
Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547
Phone: 850-862-2015

Trevor, you are a gem. This is the way I will go.

Need to get to Fort Walton in the next few days in any case. Need some more stainless bolts and such.

Thank you so much.

How about year, the big difference that I know of is one boot on the later ones has a smaller size inter end?

Check the thread size for the outer tie rod ends. If it is 5/8 then it is an early rack, 1/2" is later.

Ahh, the intresting things you learn here.

Thanks Chris

My sincrere thanks also as I was asking about that. Now I know what to look for I will check what I have in the morning. Thanks again!

Oh well, the spare is a 1/2"er, later model. Anybody need one? I'll just redo the one on the car when I get to it. Thanks for the info.

okay, so just to beat the dead horse one more time, cornhead grease is essentially EP-0 grease or a lithium-based grease/oil. it's a mixture of a grease and oil. so i understand that. if i bought super lube EP-0 grease and shot it into the boot area, would that be the fix or not? somehow, i can't see the purpose of an oil like substance lubricating a joint in a boot when there is nothing there to move the oil around. i also understand that a grease substance won't penetrate the joint where it's needed. i'm trying to get around having to jury rig asomething to pump this stuff in. how much pressure does it take to push past the check ball on these fittings?

"how much pressure does it take to push past the check ball on these fittings?"

a lot!

I shot the corn head grease into the rack using a normal grease gun. It works itself out into the boot area on its own.

trevor, does this type of grease come in any other form than bottle? everything i have seen shows bottles. the grease gun you mention, is that the special oil gun mentioned earlier?

The corn head grease I use comes in a regular size grease tube that fits in my normal grease gun. I use John Deere brand.

Tomorrow I get my corn head. Oh wait that's grease.

Just to elaborate on the different steering racks in Spridgets, the later model steering rack was robbed from the Spitfire during the BL days, it the same exact rack as the Spit but with different length outer tie rods. The later rack can be converted to any earlier model car and is a bolt on, you need the rack mounts as well as the rack, but it all bolts in.
