Can someone in one para or less tell me what the model of the vehicle is that the Datsun tranny is that fits in a Midget and what is stamped or cast into the side.

I found an old, active, large junk yard that just might have same and want to make sure I know what I am talking about.

Yep me also. So question still applies.

'79-'82 Datsun 210...double check for the "60" cast into the side of the case (also check to make sure it has a 5-speed....many were still 4-speeds).

from the Rivergate site---A Datsun 5-speed transmission from August 1979 to 1982 Datsun 210. This can be from a coupe, sedan or wagon.

The input and output shafts should be 20mm (about 25/32") diameter and 18 spline.

The serial number on top of the bellhousing should begin with the letter "F" (FL, FA, FX etc. OK). The number "60" is cast into the right side of the main case. These transmissions come from the Datsun 210, but the model number for these cars, imbedded in the Serial Number, is B310. The model number for the transmission, FS5W60A, is sometimes found on the Serial Number plate on the firewall. This is not found on the transmission.

When you buy the transmission you need to get the gearshift lever, throwout bearing carrier and clutch release fork

Super guys, that is just what I needed. No, Miss Agatha is not going to get a 5 speed, I like her just as she is thanks. No highway driveing for her.

Jack you have a PM

Jack, something special to keep an eye out for is the 1979 Datsun 210.
For 6 months they put a dogleg version of the 60 tranny in.
It's sought after by the racers and is the 60L version.

Trust me I know first hand it fits the tunnel of a Spridget.
BillM and I will be rebuilding mine sometime soon.

Lots of good info on Datsun 5 speeds at the Datsun1200 tech wiki:

I concur with Rick... we just put the dog-leg in my Midget at the last N.O.S.H.I.T. and I absolutely love it. I would never go back to the 4 speed. Do your research and check end play and side to side play on the shaft. Put it through all the gears and rotate it with your hand. Make sure all the gears turn smoothly. Good luck on the search!

Thanks, more than I ever wanted to know. hehe. Intresting the dog leg.
