Question: power for the fuel pump

So I need to wire up the fuel pump -- for those just joining this story I've switched the Bugeye to an electronic fuel pump (Carter).

Questions:

1. Where do I pull power from so that it will be switched with the key (I am adding a manual switch somewhere under the dash as well).

2. I'd like to add an additional fuse for this line. What amp rating (BUSS) should I use?

Use a white wire to keep the color code as it should be.
Run a wire from either the ignition switch or the white wire terminal on the fuse box to a switch and on to the fuel pump.
White wires are hot when the ignition is on.

Check with the instruction on what the amp pull is of the pump (or measure it), then I would go 125% to 150% more. something like 3-5 amps.

Miss Agathas is run through the ign. switch. Seems to work fine. I did not put a switch in the line, wish I had.

That's a good pump. However, I ran into problems with the one I installed in the GT6 so I'd like to pass along a warning about it so you can plumb yours better than I did.

Put a COARSE filter BEFORE the pump. You'll want a filter that is translucent so you can see what's inside. The Carter pump is cooled by the flowing fuel. If you loose fuel flow from a plugged filter (like I did), the pump can overheat and melt in the time it takes to empty the float bowls (at idle). If you have a fresh, clean, or lined tank this probably won't be necessary. However, if this is an older tank with any dirt or rust scale in it, use the coarse filter and check it frequently.

Doug -- the pump came with a filter specifically to use before the pump. Is that adequate?

I put a jumper terminal on the back of the ignition switch and ran an inline fuse to a toggle under the dash then under the carpet up the rear "deck"through a convenient hole up there (with a grommet) coming up above the axle and down to the pump. FWIW

The filter supplied with the pump is functions. However, if you have scale and rust in the tank, you'll NEVER see it plugging the insides of the solid metal filter. That's what happened to my pump. That metal filter plugged shortly after getting the GT6 back on the road.

I now have a Facet pump on the GT6 and placed the type of filter shown in the link below before the pump.

Thanks, Doug. That's good to know. I'll look into adding one of those to my line. My tank has been cleaned out, but I'd rather not take chances.
