Question- plunger

I am unable to get a plunger for the tranny 1st 2ed fork rod out. It seeingly has a bad burr on the bottom by all indications.

This plunger is steel. Any reason I can not drill a small hole down in it and use a tap to pull it? The plunger is at least 3/8 in long.

I have bent steel rods to push from the bottome of the fork hole but can not get a long enough right angle in there to push it all the way up.

No drilling on that thing, hardened steel. Used a drill larger than the hole it fits in and cut the top of the hole tapered about a 1/16. Poped right out.

Tranny done, waiting on clutch and pressure plate now.

Darn good thing, I'm worn out.

Jack - had you been having tranny problems with Miss A before? I thought this was an oil pump job - or has it become a "while it's out I might as well..." job?

Had a bit of sticking going into second gear.

I think it was the plunger that pushes on the shift rod was sticking a bit. I hope I hope.

It was a gold box but was really gunked up and maybe, just maybe I did not get that part cleaned as well as I should have so it did not slide as smoothly as it should. Would stick kind of from nutural to second, once over the hump was smooth.

I do note that the 1-2 and the 3-4 springs that push on their respective plungers are the same length along with the plungers. However, the 1-2 spring has about twice as much tension on it as the 3-4 one.

I know it is supose to be that way bit found it a bit strange. Can not logicaly compute that.

Yea doing a few things as long as it is out. No big deals just stuff that is easier with the engine and tranny out.

Think I am down to just cleaning now in the engine and tunnel while I wait on the new clutch and pressure plate.

Seems to be comming along nicely.
