TR2/3/3A Question on TRF radiator cap GRC103

I bought a new radiator cap p/n GRC103 from TRF for my TR3. It has a big but fairly thin rubber washer around the top. This washer is preventing me from getting the cap screwed on past the first outdent in the radiator "head". The old cap (not sure of the p/n) did not have the big rubber washer. If I remove the rubber washer it will be steel of the cap sealing against the brass of the radiator "head". Should I bend the tabs of the cap with the rubber washer outward a bit so it is not so tight, or should I take the rubber washer off. It is a 4 pound cap.
Thanks!
Bob

Bob, I think the rubber washer is needed to maintain vacuum for coolant recovery systems, so not needed for TR2/3/4. FWIW, I did have to bend the tabs on one I got recently for my TR6 to get it to seat, so maybe there's a problem in recent repros.
