TR4/4A question on TR 4 a chrome bonnet letters

Hi all,

Recently I have purchased a Triumph Tr 4 a but the bonnet is lacking its Triumph letters see picture.

I am wondering how these letters will be attached to the bonnet.

Is their also a way how to determine the right distance ( is there a kind of template or dimensions available ?)

Should have had them at one time, any evidence of the old holes on the backside of the bonnet?

Each letter has two fixing prongs. The prongs pass through holes in the hood. They're fastened with retaining clips.
Some things on your 4A don't match...you've got a TR4 bumper, the grille has the look of one from a TR250 (TR5), and the passenger side wiper arm doesn't have the dogleg needed to clear the cowl vent when open. When I got mine, it too was a mixture of someone's imagination.

I am thinking some replacement bonnets came w/o the holes for the letters. Certainly true of TR3As because the letter style and pegs (and holes) were changed at TS60001 but may also be true of TR4 replacements?

Harry - Your best source may be a tracing/rubbing of someone's bare bonnet, but if all else fails I would be happy to take some photos of mine with a meter-stick or tape measure along side them to show placement - but maybe the bonnet looks pretty good as is.

Yes, like speed-nuts. But instead I use short lengths of rubber vacuum hose so they can be more easily removed for buffing, etc.

@ 3798J I' am aware this is the incorrect grille. I was thinking about selling this one and source for the TR 4 a grille. Another idea is to make the car bumper less and I will have a look for the correct wiper arm.

At 5' 7" and shrinking, I fit easily in both. Though the view is through the exact same windshield, you sit higher and more upright in the 4A which gives it the nod to which has the better view of the road. As might be imagined, the GT6 has blind spots to the rear. I find the GT6's seats more comfortable. It's seat bottoms sit low to the floor with a bolster on the outside and padding on the driveshaft tunnel. Steering wheel and gearshift position is best in the 4A. View of gauges is excellent in both. There's no dead pedal (dimmer switch pedestal) for your left foot in the GT6. Getting in or out of the GT6 isn't as easy as the 4A. Summing up, they're a very different fit but both fit good.
