TR2/3/3A Question on side seal on TR3 fender seal plate

I bought the side seal for the fender seal plate on my TR3 from Moss, p/n 680-410. Which side goes on the plate, is it the side with the shorter slot? Also, the seal is so stiff that I can't bend it outward so that the plate bolts will fit, and if I leave it straight out from the plate, the holes don't even come close to matching the fender holes. How do I go about fitting the side seal? Thanks!

Bend the top rubber forward so it will seal tighter when water hits it. The side seal splits for and aft on the plate, and best to bend forward to fit the wing contour.
