I've posted on here that I'm sellind alot of my vehicles off...one being my 75s model 911. Anthow, a guy..45 yrs old..from north od San Francisco called me and said"its the 911 I've been searcjing for" sent at least 20 pics..told him all that I knew. Then it started going sideways. Minor at forst...shots of all data plates and speedo..did it. Then He wrote and said we needed to talk price?? Said from the git-go price was firm. Then He wanted a video of it starting, idling...and reving up?? Started to but then he writes and says he needs an independent sports car guy to get car and check it out..ain't leaving the building. Then he said the vin he gave him wasn't it?? Tis.and always has been. Then he wants a carfax..by me. I asked him if he realized it was a 35 year old car. Then he wants me to sign a legal form that syas if he ships it to Calif..and dosen't meet his criteria, I'll refund money and shipping and then I have to pay to ship it back. My atty, all my pals and my wife says"Bull****"!!! Think I'm right to back...no make that run..from the deal??

Go with your gut, Jack. Plenty of buyers out there.

You're holding the cards.

Yes

The more I think about it the more it upsets me. I've been working on my attitude, being nice to old people...my wife included:smile:...and petting small dogs. Then this guy drifts into my life. I need a pill.

Jack:
Trust your instinct - this has scam written all over it. He probably wants to try to resell the car (without putting it in his name) and if he fails ;return it for a refund, yeah sure. Don't allow a creep like this upset your day at all!

Jack;

As you have been working on your attitude, give him a very polite reply, "The afore mentioned automobile has been withdrawn from the market due to scam artists trying to benefit from this generous offer".

Then, RUN, from any dealings with this person!

JMHO

Dave

Jack, you have gone above and beyond. Do no more and withdraw. I would be concerned for the well fair of my vehicle in his hands.

When my father sold his '53 TD in '74, he "interviewed" prospective buyers before "placing" his baby with it's next caregiver...

Your customer scares me, run!

Run Jack, Run.
You will find a more pleasant buyer I am sure.
It will only get worse if you continue to deal with this guy.
Run now!

I have a friend with two Avantis.
One has been car-cover feature several times, used in photo shoots, immaculate.

So, some lawyer wants to buy it, sends in a person to "evaluate" it.

Price is firm, as in your case.

Report comes back that the car is in primer, doesn't run well.....so the lawyer offers 1/10 asking price (or something else ridiculously low).

What does my buddy do?

Donates it to the car museum, where it went right on display.
Peterson's, I think.

That was his way of dealing with the morons.

In your case, run. Don't walk, run, and refuse to respond to any more communications from him.

I'm with the other folks here -- not worth your hassled. I see no problem having your prospective buyer send someone over to look over the car, but that's about it.

If your buyer was really serious, he'd fly down and look it over himself. Otherwise, it's a used car with the normal taillight warranty -- the warranty runs out once the seller can't see the taillights anymore.

I've been in the used car business of and on for the last 15 years. My wife call's me "The Car Nazi". If I don't like your attitude, or if you start acting stupid, insulting or otherwise like an idiot, I'll cut you off in a heartbeat KNOWING I'll sell it to someone else sooner or later.

Bottom line, he aint doin' you a favor by takin your car.

I've dealt w/ some pinheads, but this one takes the cake !!!!

"Pay return shipping if it doesn't meat his criteria"......PLEASE !!!!

....oooooh, I feel it boilin' up inside me now !!!!!!

now ~I'M~ insulted.....

...LEMME AT 'EM JACK !!!!!

"How ~DARE~ you insult my friend....

........NO PORSCHE FOR YOU...........NEXT !!!

Love the quote from kellysguy! You've been more than patient, tell him to take a hike.

Jack...gotta agree with Drew..

Quote:] If your buyer was really serious, he'd fly down and look it over himself[/QUOTE]
I've bought several cars online and know it's up to me to perform due diligance....avoid it the right buyer will come along...

Sounds like a Garbage Truck driver to me. If you've never heard this before, here's the story written by David J. Pollay:

"I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when all of a sudden, and I mean without warning, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded and missed the other car’s back end by just inches.

Here’s what happened next. The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us. How do I know? Ask any New Yorker, some words in New York come with a special face.

Now, here’s what blew me away. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly. So, I said, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you.

When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You’ll be happy you did. I guarantee it."

You don't need or want this guy's garbage.

Geez Jack, terminate all dealing immediately. I have a customer that bought a 75 remarkably like yours for twice the money, sight unseen, from some dealer half way across the country. I SO wish that he was still looking, as I would have him buy your car in a red hot second. Since you are a pro, and know the history, you should be able to strike a deal with a knowlegable enthusiat without much problem. Stick to your guns. Any sale that takes that much work is not worth it.

Jack-
You WILL know when you have the right buyer, just like you NOW know you have the wrong buyer.
Just say "No"

Jack:

For the price that you are asking for that car he should be kissing your arse.

Pat

In the last couple years I've been involved in lookin' at Porsches for friends. Two cars, same era, asking price was higher than yours in both cases. In both cases those cars were purchased... I wish one of 'em was lookin' now. If I get any inquiries the info will be passed.

I'd do as Dave says and tell th' putz the car has been removed from the sale list.
