Question on Pertronix for my positive gnd. 100-4

Recently installed positive gnd. Pertronix on my 100-4 and it's running great. My question is on the positive side of the coil where I removed the distributor wire and the wire that goes back to the battery switch and added a new wire that goes to a ground, couldn't I leave the wire that goes back to the battery switch on the coil and that would act as my ground since the battery switch is connected to the positive ground side of the battery? This would eliminate the new wire I added and look more original.

Thanks for any advise,

Kurt

Re: Question on Pertronix for my positive gnd. 100

The small white with brown wire that goes to the battery switch from the coil is only grounded when the battery switch is turned to the off position. You can't use it as a ground when running the car unless your purposely connect it wrong.
... You have a 100-4 so perhaps the wire color is different than my BJ8 .

Thanks Ed for the reply.

So I guess it's best not to connect it, or would it hurt to leave it connected as long as I have the new wire that is now the ground? I'm surprized the instructions don't mention anything about this wire. Only to remove the wire from the coil to the distributor.

Thanks again,

Kurt

Re: Question on Pertronix for my positive gnd. 100

Think of that wire as having only one purpose. It's purpose is an early attempt at an anti-theft device. It has no function in keeping the car running, it is just to try and keep it not running by grounding the points when the battery switch is turned off. It has no bearing on how you should hook up a petronix igniter. I have one on my car and also have the anti theft wire installed. It provides the same function as it did for the points by grounding the ignitor ( at the wrong place to allow it to work ) only when the battery is switched off.

Thank you for the info. Guess I'll hook it back up to the coil in addition to the new ground wire I added like you mentioned. Looking forward to getting it out on the road to see how it runs. Idling in the garage it runs very smooth. Maybe someday we'll see sunlight here in Pittsburgh.

Happy New Year!
