Question on Oil Temperature Gauge

Gents,

I have fitted an Oil Temperature Gauge into my BN6. I used Smith Classic Line Instrument BT2240-01C in combination with sender TT6811-01 from Caerbont Automotive Instruments. Following the advice of the German supplier (ISA Racing) I also used a 10V regulator.

My problem is that with the 10V regulator my gauge does not show any temperature, without the regulator (directly attached to 12V) temperature is shown. I am unsure about the correct constellation: with or without 10V regulator. The documents I got are unclear with respect to this issue. Can anybody in this group clarify that?

I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest you don't need the regulator. I am basing this on a diagram from a Smiths supplementary instruments
installation booklet. In the diagram there is no regulator depicted in the diagram. Power lead comes from ignition switch. Gauge case is grounded and the other
lead to sender. It may be that add on gauges are different in this respect. The installation booklet has a publication # xxb505d. I add a lot of gauges to my cars,
voltmeters, electric oil and temp, haven't had issues.
