Question on L shaped rubber top of window channel

What is used to secure the "L" shaped rubber at the top of the window channel on the vent window frame. I installed a new one on each side but am at a loss as what to use to nail them down! The fit seems to be very loose. Are they put in with some sort of cement? It's been a while, but I think the old ones were tighter??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif PJ

No cement, nothing...they hold themselves in by their shape

Ha, Yeah.....some of the repos don't have the correct size to fit tight enough....use a little bit of black RTV.

Every one of them that I've gotten from Moss were tight fits....did you get it from Vickie?

not sure.....i had a spare one that came with a car.....I've got a moss one to install on the other B....so maybe that will work out better

Remember if they can't "give" with the window when it goes up & down, they'll split in half.

Some of the aftermarket varieties are manufactured with the wrong channel diameter...a little too tight for the window to slide through the channel...and the window will either split the rubber (as Tony mentions) or pull the rubber out of the chrome strip....or simply stop the window from rising to its full extension (without breaking off the handle!)

I just put a light coating of black RTV on the base that inserts into the channel......this was on a car that I have since sold(77 MGB) but while I had it(about 4 months) it worked fine.....I'll be more careful when I go about installing the next one, thanks for the warning.

Re: Question on L shaped rubber top of window chan

I just ordered a pair of new ones from Moss. I think I got the ones I have now from Vic.Brit. And they don't fit right! Thanks guys for the info. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif PJ

Re: Question on L shaped rubber top of window chan

I had the one on the drivers side of my car disapear one day about a year ago... I played with the passenger side one, and never could figure out how or why the other one fell off or disapeared.

Re: Question on L shaped rubber top of window chan

I found mine when I took out the passenger seat to do my leather install this winter. I need to put it back in, I guess...as soon as I figure out where the darn thing goes!
