Question on instrument light bulbs

Indeed: "Every Little Thing She Says..."

Funny, just thought about it: THAT'S why I don't have any affinity for "newer" cars! They don't "talk" to me like our li'l sh*t-shakers do. NSX was one BIG disappointment. Sure it's a statistical SuperCar, but it just ~does~ stuff. I like the smells, noise, vibes et al. Forty-five can feel like a hundred at times in OUR cars, seeing the upper end of capabilities in the newer preformance ones is a serious risk to self and/or wallet. I'll stick with "Shake, rattle and roll." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You two are the kings of digressing threads! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Na, we just in love and it shows.

but then... Doc digresses.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

better than regressing!

Uh-huh... and I see Trev is a good "segue participant" too! We COULD go back to "light bulbs" I s'pose...

I like the LED idea, but doing up the whole thing would be somewhat intense: I'd want the rheostat to "look" like the original, and bury the circuitry "box" where it'd be hidden well and removable with no mods to the car. Problematic when all ya actually need is a mini-mag lite now and again. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What's is the big deal, maybe he just needs new glasses.

Wonder if the bulbs are clean?

Hmm, another thought, wire the inst lights around the dimmer switch and see if that helps. Might just be getting part of the elec, along with a lot of smoke through there.

I still bet you can find bulbs that are just a bit brighter.

rheostat have too much resistance in it? Seriously, the dash lights do get plenty bright, if all's well. The only time they seem not bright enough is when I have a SUV behind me lighting the dash with its headlights, or the top is off and the street lamps are lighting the instruments. But in those situations the outside light source is so bright I don't need the instruments back lit.

Way to go team! Everybody is back on topic, but... now we are just covering the same ground. Dead topic?

Umm... that was the FIRST reason for digression....

I have available a 8 Watt bulb that will replace the 2.2 watt Lucas bulb. I have used them (tested) in my 1972 MGB for six months, and no problem. The difference is like night and day. It is a direct screw in bulb that does not need any modification. They are also available in Blue or Green. I have tried the LED bulbs, but they are not as bright, plus they costs much more. If any is interested in the bulb, drop me an email at dmagee@ij.net

"The glass globe on this bulb is too big"
That is the problem I had with any of the LED clusters that are bright enough.

Just dremel the glass back a bit - it'll fit.

Kenny are you talking about the LED clusters? I have actually been able to make one fit, but I was very close to smashing the diodes.

No, I was being goofy again... Pictured myself grinding away the bulb glass, and inserting just the element - hehehhe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Oh, I get it. Humor, Pinky, Humor.

These clusters can be made to work with some gentle bending (still a tight fit) They are significantly brighter than the stock bulbs. But they are $7 each. I do not know what sort of life expectancy they have. I tried out the superwhite version tonight and I'm going to go ahead and switch the rest of mine. I hope I don't break any of the others when I do my "gentle" bending.
