TR6 Question on installing new head gasket

I will shortly be installing an rebuilt head on my TR6.
When putting the gasket down, is it necessary to use any sealer around the water holes, or should the gasket be applied to just the two clean surfaces and torqued down?
I'm concerned about using sealer since that introduces another "level" between the gasket and the block/head.

I wouldn't go so far as to say this is necessary...but if you did not have the top of the block resurfaced and leveled, like the machine shop probably did to the bottom of the cylinder head, I'd use this.
I hang the gasket up suspended by a wire and spray both sides with several light coats..It actually makes for a better seal if there are small irregularities in the surface.

Coat Hanger...Hanging it up...
Now why didn't I think of that???
