Question on front floor section

Anyone have pictures of the front floor section - is the depression/well centered in the floor pan? Where does the floor mounted accelerator pedal line-up compared to the depression?

Ray was kind enough to point me to this, but this floor doesn't seem to have the correct depression...

Thanks!

i have a section ready to put in mine but no camera to take a pic for you..go to ebay and there's replacement pans available with pictures. maybe you can visualise what your looking for from that. the strip that you see punched out the long way in the front goes to the inside frame rail. hope that helps a little

Thanks Bob - that does help.

1) So the deepest part of the well/depression sits right against the front section/frame rail?

2) The well/depression is to the left of the accelerator pedal so the floor mounted gas pedal is on a flat section and your left foot sits in the depression?

the pans you see on ebay are upside down..give ma a few minutes and i'll go out back and tell you where that long depression is on the frame rail.

the long strip in the front of the pan is centered on the frame rail toward the inside of the car, the small edge is used for the plug welds that go on both sides of that strip. the large rounded depression is for your feet under the petals. as far as the gas petal just do it last and drill the 2 holes to make it straight. i think it'll be on the flat between the large rounded depression and the long strip depression when i'm finally done. it sounds confusing to me and i just looked at it so i hope it helps..everyone here is a big help when you need something so i'm sure someone will come thru with a pic for you soon.

Hi Bob - thanks for the info. My question is if my right foot for the accelerator pedal is flat and ly left foot sites in the depression.

it's hard for me to tell( mines not in yet) exactly where it will all end up. i still have to cut out the old work that is just flat. looking at it i believe that lg rounded depression will be centered in the foot well. this is just a guess but i'm thinking the gas pedal will be mounted on the flat by the corner. someone here has to have a good pic of it. try looking thru markberry's and whitephrog(sp?)pics. they come to mind as being detailed and helpful and i'm sure there's lots more elsewhere. sorry i can't be of more help but by the time i get this all done it'll be spring and you'll be way ahead of me as i only get a few hours here and there.. bob

Looks like it is offset to the outside here;

These look offset a bit as well;

Here is one work around, which I think indicates the depression needs to be moved over. Not offense, but this work around doesn't seem right.

Text from the picture "This is the fix I came up with for the accelerator pedal mount location. As most people know who have gone here before, the new pressings are incorrect and don't allow space to mount the accelerator pedal in the original fashion."

BINGO - look at where the captive nuts are for the accelerator pedal. That section is flat under the pedal, the deperession starts under the brake and clutch.

That's what I remember as well -- can't get too the Tunebug right now to try and get a picture though.

yes..just got in from looking and measuring but its tough with old floor still in driver side..the pedal depression is offset toward the inside of the footwell about 1 1/2" or so..those pics are going to be a big help here also..thanks

Here's some photo's of that area. The floor pan was originally spot welded along the turned up flange to the inner rocker panel all the way from the front to the back and spot welded to the firewall and the outer bulkhead in the front and back. then it was spot welded to all the floor supports and front frame rails. If you lay your new floor pan over the old one from underneath holding it against the inner rocker, you'll see how it will fit into that space and where you'll have to make the cut along the center under the transmission tunnel. There's alot of discussion out there you can look up about the problems we're having with the new floor pans that are currently available. for some reason they're not being produced with the front pressing correctly centered; The flat section on the inner side of the depression where the accelerator pedal mounts doesn't exist. You'll see this if you're new floor pan is the same as mine was. the only thing I can think of is that they're manufacturing the pans to fit the way they fit in the later 1500 midgets where the accelerator pedal didn't mount on the floor. The photo on spritespot and the photos here show how I worked around the problem. I can't see how the floor pan could be put in wrong if you drill out all the old spotwelds and cut the from the center where you need to. Let me know if this helps or if you need more clarification.
Best regards
Mark

Thanks Mark.

It is fairly easy to get wrong I think if you don't have reference points, the patch panel is a different size, or only part of the floor was there in the first place.

I am pretty darn sure the depression is not centered as it came from the factory, it's offset to the left. I confirmed this today since there was part of the curve down on the original floor that remained close to the left side bulkhead.

Here is where I am at as this AM's fitting;

Looks good! As long as your welding flanges are tight against the inner rocker and the firewall you should have it in square. That's how my original floor pan looked when it was installed. However the one I replaced it with had the depression centered in the foot well, leaving no room on the inner flat ledge to mount the pedal. So to fix it I installed the floor pan temporarily with clecos and made the necessary fabrication to mount the pedal on . You can take the measurements for the accelerator pedal bolt holes from the passengers side(if that floor pan is still original) or just wing it by hooking up the pedal linkage and setting the pedal on the floor where it should go, checking for binding and clearance with pedal travel. Let me know if you want the measurements from my car- I took the measurements from my passenger side floor pan.

Mark

Thanks Mark - those measurements would be great and useful for people searching on this topic in the future. Thanks!

I did away with the depression and put in a flat plate, I see absolutely no difference and with carpet I don't think anyone else would. I have put in sound deadening mats so that further hides the indentation which is fairly shallow.

I had a good pasenger side and was able to copy the pedal location from it as it is the same.
