Has anyone used Halfords 20/50 classic car oil? Is it any good or what brand should I look for. I couldn't find any 20/50 castrol.

No Castrol? Its from your part of the world!

Maybe Halfords bought it all and stuck their name on it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

When I think of it, why would Halfords stock 20/50 Castrol if they want to push their own classic motor oil!

Halfords is a reputable brand, I used their oil in my cosworth with no problems, even being run hard very often.
I'd have no reason not to trust it, but if castrol was available....

My big goal in life was to run a car on Castrol Racing oil as I remember the distict smell from my early days hanging around race tracks in Europe. It is still available from Castrol but I wonder if it is the same formulation.

Peter, that would have been Castrol 'R', a vegetable oil with a very distinct, and to me nostalgic, smell when burnt.
I used to use it way back.

Yea, smelled good like a race car should.

They should make an aerosol so we can spray the engine and make the smell come back. You are right it was not compatable with any of the other oils.

I would guess a small bit on the exhaust header would give you the big time smell.

Big K mart here.

Whay are you trying to smuggle motor oil?

Well Peter, a simple Google search of "Castrol "R" oil" resulted in 17 hits of only the first did I try. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif "R"

Since half way down the page there IS a "R" couple of which one says not to mix... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif

Doubt it's the same tho /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif

No way could you mix Castrol R with normal oil. It is just that if you are an old **** who hung around racetracks years ago the smell of the oil which is totally unique brings back memories of long ago.

Does it ever, get one quart and put a bit in a small squirt can to put on the exhaust manifold shortly before you want to impress the guys.
