Question - Exhaust header

I can not remember but think the 1275 header will bolt to the 948 engine. Only the flange to exhaust pipe is different?

Reason I ask is I need one and see a 1275 cheep on ebay.

I haven't looked at a 948 in a while. I do recall that the ports are smaller. Moss sells two size headers 948 and 1098/1275 so there may be some other differences.

Another option would be to upgrade to a 1098 head, which has bigger valves and a better cumbustion chamber and would probably use the 1275 header. I believe that this adds a few hp 4-6, but the head needs to decked significantly to keep the CR reasonable.

Oh no. Head is at machine shop being reworked at the moment. Next engine will be a go getter after I get this Bug up and running, etc.

Jack,

Unless you are trying to extract every last bit of performance from the 948, go for it. The major difference is tube size with the 1275 header using slightly larger tubes.

Yes, the ports are smaller on the 948 heads. Should not present a fit problem though. Don't ask me why but I've set Maniflow 948 headers, pipe and muffler on the 1275 race motor in the car in my avatar. Bolted right up with no problems what so ever. (and due to be changed for a set of 1275 thru-tunnel headers only because I do want the last bit of performance from the engine, and to lower the car)
