My adjusting bolt is all the way out and still not tight.

Now what?
 
If it is the old cable, it's probably stretched out to the max. If it is a new repro cable, they stretch out to the max in about a month. I already have 2 that are gonna be used to hang the maker of them when I find him.
NOS or a cable made by Canton from the era are about the only ones worth buying but you have to look on Ebay for them.
For some reason, modern cables and rubber are just not worth the plastic bag they come in these days.
 
So what's the answer Frank, cut down the rods?
 
<span style="color: #FF0000">NO</span> Jack. New cable or <u>check adjusters</u> at the drum, but <span style="color: #FF0000">NOT </span>cut the rods!!
I assume you are referring to the adjuster at the rear axle end of the E-brake cable!
 
sounds like you have wear somewhere (say that 3 times fast). don't cut anything before you replace the wear!
 
If the old cable has streatched and the new ones do the same thing?

Did replace all the clevices, Guess it's a trip under there and see what I can see again.
